  • Empty your drawers to avoid damages and unnecessary losses.

  • Return library books.

  • Round up important family documentation; passports and birth certificates.
  • Pack all your valuables: jewelry, electronics, money, documents, etc.

  • Pack up any smaller appliances.

  • Separate luggage items you need for personal travel.

Moving Day
  • Clean out closets, attic and the basement as soon as you can.

  • Sort through the basement, loft and garage.

  • Take a final walk to ensure lights are off and doors locked as well.

  • Wait to pack your cleaning supplies until you’ve done your last cleanup.

  • Empty steam irons of water.

  • Empty your dishwasher and let it air out so there is no moisture inside

  • Decide what to do with prohibited items; such spray canners, paint, thiner, etc.

  • Remove all batteries from small appliances and keep them all in small plastic bags.

  • Remove / Return any propane canisters.

  • Inform the movers of any items traveling separately from the moving truck.

  • Clean garden tools and similar equipment.

  • Make sure your floors are protected

  • Empty the tanks of powered tools and equipment (gasoline or oil )

  • Take a final walk to ensure the lights and doors are locked.

  • Submit your change of address a week before your move date

  • Cancel cable, pest control, cleaning help, and lawn services a week before moving

  • Make reservations for the movers at least two to 3 weeks in advance. 

  • Cancel your current services and set up any on going services for your new home.

  • Arrange for mail to be forwarded to your new address.

  • Prepare a list of people who need your change of address.

  • Ensure the utilities at your new home are set up. ( Gas, Electricity, Water, Trash )

  • Read and Sign any necessary paperwork for you move.

  • Ensure that you have enough medication for at least two weeks.

  • Make sure you have copies of any necessary prescriptions you will need.

  • Keep an eye on the weather and make adjustments accordingly.

  • The night before your move, prepare a cooler with water and some snacks.

  • Check your owner’s manual for special instructions for moving large appliances.

  • Have enough snacks and cash on hand to get you through the day.

  • Empty your dishwasher and let it air out so there is no moisture inside.
